Back in March of 2017, it was announced that FX and the BBC had renewed the Tom Hardy-headlined period drama Taboo for a second series .
We’ve had little in the way of updates since, but now Steven Knight – who co-created the series with Hardy and his father Chips Hardy – has confirmed to Collider that the scripts for the second series are “almost completed” and that he anticipates the eight new episodes will begin shooting in late 2019 or early 2020.
“If we all stick with it and we all want to keep doing it, it would be three [seasons],” said Knight. “That’s my plan. Because I’ve got a geographical sort of route for the thing to take. It’s basically a journey west. I have a destination in mind, which is always nice to have if you’re setting off on this big journey, which is what writing three eight-hours is. It’s good to know where you’re headed.”
Taboo takes place in the nineteenth century and sees Hardy portraying James Delany, an adventurer who returns to England following the death of his father and sets out to rebuild his father’s shipping empire, only to discover that both the government and his biggest competitor want his inheritance at any cost
