Well, so much for his retirement…
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Steven Soderbergh is set to follow-up the currently-in-production Logan Lucky with a movie based upon the Panama Papers scandal, which he is producing with an eye to direct.
The movie will be based upon Jake Bernstein’s upcoming book The Secrecy World, and will explore details the leaking of more than 11 million records from the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, which revealed details of the financial dealings and attempts to avoid taxation by many of the world’s wealthiest individuals. The book is said to “contain new details as well as revelations about the financial machinations of rulers and royalty, the illegal activities of some of the world’s largest banks, details about the role of U.S. companies and citizens and the inside story of how a global team of investigative journalists cracked the story.”
The script for the project is being written by Scott Z. Burns, who has previously collaborated with Soderbergh on Contagion, The Informant! and Side Effects.
