Director Steven Soderbergh has shared his Lucasfilm rejection letter.
It’s no doubt that many a filmmaker’s dream is to land a gig working with Lucasfilm, the studio behind classic hits such as Star Wars and the Indiana Jones movies.
This would have been just as true, if not more so, back in 1984, when up and coming filmmaker Steven Soderbergh submitted his material to the studio. Unfortunately, the director didn’t receive the response he would have hoped for and has now shared the letter he received via his Twitter page.
Soderbergh has since gone to hit the big time of course, becoming one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed directors with features such as the academy award winning Traffic and Ocean’s Eleven.

Soderbergh was just 21 years old at the time of his submission to Lucasfilm but took the chance in hope of achieving his filmmaking dreams. As he states in his tweet, the rejection only made him stronger.
Five years later, Soderbergh would go onto to direct his debut feature, Sex, Lies and Videotapes, winning the prestigious Palme d’Or.
