Deadline is reporting that Bridge of Spies director Steven Spielberg, screenwriter Matt Charman and producer Marc Platt are to reunite for a feature film that will explore legendary newscaster Walter Cronkite’s role in turning public opinion against the Vietnam War.
According to the site, Charman pitched Spielberg the project during the awards season circuit for Bridge of Spies; the script needs written, and Spielberg is yet to commit to directing.
Spielberg’s new film The BFG is set for release next month [read our review here], and he will follow that up with Ready Player One, The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara and Indiana Jones 5. Charman’s next project is the Boston Marathon bombing drama Patriots Day, and he is also working on Wilderness for Fox 2000 and has an untitled heist film set up at 20th Century Fox.
