With Ant-Man and the Wasp opening in the U.S. this weekend, director Peyton Reed has been chatting to the Los Angeles Times about the Marvel sequel, and in particularly the casting of Hannah John-Kamen as the film’s villain The Ghost.
“When she read [for the role] she was really tough and physical, but she also played the vulnerability of that character,” said Reed. “We liked the idea of presenting an antagonist who has these powers, which are potentially dangerous and lethal, but they’re an affliction for her more than they are a power.”
The director also went on to reveal that she also came with a strong letter of recommendation from Steven Spielberg, who had just worked with the actress on Ready Player One:
“It said, ‘Dear Peyton,’” Reed explained. “ ‘I’m excited you’re doing the movie and I just want to put in the good word for Hannah. I worked with her and she was terrific. Signed, Steven Spielberg.’”
