Given that he’ll be pushing eighty years old by the time it hits cinemas, it probably won’t come as much of a surprise to hear that the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 will mark Harrison Ford’s final outing as the bullwhip-cracking, fedora-wearing archaeologist and adventurer.
Speaking to The Sun during a promotional interview for his new film Ready Player One, director Steven Spielberg was quoted as stating that “this will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure” – although he did go on to state that the franchise “will certainly continue after that.”
It’s long been rumoured that Lucasfilm has been mulling over the possibility of rebooting Indiana Jones, with Chris Pratt seemingly a favourite when it comes to suggesting actors to succeed Ford in the iconic role.
Spielberg however has previously said that “I don’t think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy”, although he now appears to have come up with a way, telling The Sun that the character could continue in a “different form… we’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that.”
