Steven Spielberg teams with Hillary Clinton for The Woman’s Hour

August 5, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

After missing out on the presidency, Hillary Clinton has a new position in mind, with THR reporting that she is set to team with filmmaker Steven Spielberg to executive produce a TV adaptation of Elaine Weiss’ book The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote.

Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment has snapped up the rights to the book, which “follows the activists who led the decades-long fight to grant women the right to vote and sheds light on how close the battle to ratify the 19th Amendment really was.”

“At the heart of democracy lies the ballot box, and Elaine Weiss’ unforgettable book tells the story of the female leaders who — in the face of towering economic, racial and political opposition — fought for and won American women’s right to vote,” states Clinton. “Unfolding over six weeks in the summer of 1920, The Woman’s Hour is both a page-turning drama and an inspiration for everyone, young and old, male and female, in these perilous times. So much could have gone wrong, but these American women would not take no for an answer: their triumph is our legacy to guard and emulate. I am thrilled to be working with Elaine, Steven and everyone at Amblin Television on bringing this important project to audiences everywhere.”

According to the report, Amblin plans to adapt the book either as a limited series or TV movie, and will be shopping the project to premium cable networks and streaming platforms. Clinton will apparently be actively involved in the search for a writer and director, as well as casting.

Clinton’s move into television follows that of her husband Bill Clinton, who is working with Showtime to adapt the thriller novel The President Is Missing, which he co-wrote with James Patterson.
