Steven Spielberg: “There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford”

December 5, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Since Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm, there’s been a lot of speculation that the Mouse House could be looking to reboot the Indiana Jones franchise, bringing in a younger actor to take over the role from Harrison Ford.

Disney has auditioned 2500 actors to fill Ford’s shoes as the young Han Solo in the 2018 Star Wars Anthology movie, but if Steven Spielberg has his way, we won’t see any other actor donning the fedora as Indiana Jones.

“I don’t think anyone could replace Harrison [Ford] as Indy, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen,” Spielberg tells Screen International. “It’s certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into his shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman. There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford.”

Both Spielberg and Ford have recently expressed their interest in reuniting for a fifth Indiana Jones movie, so don’t be surprised if they do decide to move ahead once Spielberg finishes up with The BFG.
