Fox and Amblin Entertainment have set Steven Spielberg to direct Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep in The Post, a drama which details The Washington Post’s role in exposing the Pentagon Papers, a classified study into the United States involvement in Vietnam, and the newspaper’s legal struggle over the right to publish the report.
The Post will mark the fifth collaboration between Spielberg and Hanks after Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal and Bridge of Spies, while Streep has also worked with Spielberg in the past, having voiced the blue fairy in A.I.. It will however be the first on screen pairing for powerhouse actors Hanks and Streep, and will see Hanks portraying Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee and Streep as publisher Kay Graham.
Steven Spielberg is currently in post-production on his adaptation of Ready Player One, which is set for release on March 30th 2018, while he has several other projects on his upcoming slate including Indiana Jones 5, The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara, and a biopic of war photographer Lynsey Addario, It’s What I Do.
