Suicide Squad has continued its impressive run at the North American box office, topping the chart for the third consecutive weekend – a feat that neither Man of Steel nor Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice managed to accomplish.
Suicide Squad is expected to pull in around $20.7 million domestically over the Friday-Sunday period, having brushed aside competition from Ben-Hur, which tanked in its opening weekend.
The DC supervillain ensemble has earned $262.2 million in the States, and its worldwide haul now sits at $572.6 million. That puts it ahead of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse, which earned $542.7 million earlier this year, and it has one major market left to open in, Japan, where it debuts on September 10th.

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
