Production of the sequel to Divergent, Insurgent, begins this week, but there are a couple of late additions to the cast. The Hollywood Reporter has given word that Jonny Weston (Chasing Mavericks) and Suki Waterhouse (Pusher) have joined Insurgent, which is set to be released on March 20th 2015. It hasn’t been made clear who Weston will be playing, but Waterhouse will be taking on the role of the Dauntless Faction’s Marlene.
Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the dystopian ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
Insurgent will be directed by Robert Schwentke (R.I.P.D.) from a screenplay by Brian Duffield (Jane Got a Gun) and Akiva Goldsman (A Winter’s Tale) based off Veronica Roth’s best selling novel.
The third and fourth instalment of the series Allegiant Parts 1 & 2 will be released on March 18, 2016 and March 24, 2017, respectively.
Insurgent stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q and Mekhi Phifer.
