THR is reporting that Skybound North, Wind Sun Sky Entertainment and Com2us are teaming up for an animated TV series adaptation of the hit mobile RPG video game Summoners War, having tapped Chris “Doc” Wyatt and Kevin Burke (Super Dinosaur) to write and produce.
In Summoners War, player take on the role of a summoner who can conjure various monsters to fight in turn-based battles. The game has proven to be hugely successful since its launch in 2014, with over 90 million downloads and $1.35 billion in revenue.
“Having worked closely with Wyatt and Burke, I’ve witnessed their magic firsthand and could not think of a better team to give life to this series,” said Wind Sun Sky CEO and executive producer Catherine Winder. “We’re pleased to get started on yet another exciting Summoners War extension sure to entertain the brand’s legion of fans and expand to new fans around the world.”
The animated series extends the previous partnership between Skybound and Com2us, aimed at building out the universe of the game. As part of this deal, an animated short was released to YouTube last week entitled ‘Friends & Rivals’, and you can watch it here…
In addition to Summoners War, Skybound is also working on an animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s superhero comic book series Invincible for Amazon, and recently announced a star-studded voice cast.
