While it seemed likely that Superman would show up on CBS’ upcoming Supergirl series in some capacity, it’s now been confirmed by this casting call released by Project Casting:
We are looking for BODY DOUBLE for a DC Comic Superhero –
You must be available for an interview this Thursday and if selected will work several day during March.
This is for a CBS pilot. You can be SAG or Non-Union.
You should be 5’11 or taller and be Square Jawed
and have a ripped physique.
You must send a bodyshot, shirtless, sizes, current contact info and your first five to ChrisBSubmissions@centralcasting.com – in the subject line write SUPERMAN
Based on the fact that they’re seeking a body double for the part, it looks like Superman will only have a tangential role in the show, and likely won’t show up in the flesh (well, not in the pilot, at least). That makes sense from a creative standpoint; Superman can simply show up in TV footage or on the front page of the Daily Planet, thus acknowledging his existence in Supergirl‘s universe but allowing the titular heroine to stand apart from her far more famous cousin.
Supergirl has a series commitment from CBS, and is expected to air this fall. It stars Melissa Benoist (Glee) as Kara Zor-El, Mehcad Brooks (True Blood) as Jimmy Olsen, Laura Benanti (Nashville) as Alura Zor-El and Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal) as Cat Grant.
