CBS’ Supergirl series enlists former Kryptonians Dean Cain and Helen Slater

February 27, 2015 by James Garcia

In a great bit of meta casting, CBS’ Supergirl series has just added former Kryptonians Dean Cain and Helen Slater to its cast. Cain is of course known for his role as Clark Kent/Superman in ABC’s 1990s series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, while slater played Kara Zor-El in the 1984 Supergirl film.

There are, unfortunately, no details about what Cain and Slater’s roles (which are described by TVLine as “top secret” guest spots) may be, and while it’d be fun to speculate that they’ll play the Kryptonian parents of Kara, Laura Benanti has already been cast as Alura Zor-El. So, that’s probably out of the cards. Perhaps they’ll play Kara’s foster parents instead? Who better to parent the new Supergirl than two previous members of the Super family?

We’ll of course have more details about these roles as the news becomes available. In the meantime, speculate about who Cain and Slater might be playing in the comments below.

Supergirl has a series commitment at CBS, and is expected to air this fall. It stars Melissa Benoist (Glee) as Kara/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks (True Blood) as Jimmy Olsen, Laura Benanti (Nashville) as Alura Zor-El, and Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal) as Cat Grant.
