James Gunn announced on his Instagram production on Superman, formerly titled Superman: Legacy, has begun, coincidently on the day that is Clark Kent’s birthday in DC Comics continuity. To celebrate the start of filming, Gunn revealed the first look at Superman’s iconic S-sigil for the new film…
Gunn wrote “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday. When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”
Last week the cast had their first table read in which Gunn shared a photo of them all together. Superman will launch a new series of DC films in a continuity fresh from the previous DC Extended Universe. Gunn has named the first batch of DC films and TV series under this new continuity Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.
Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
