Superman & Lois cancelled, closing out The CW era for DC

November 3, 2023 by EJ Moreno

DC Studios is officially done with The CW as the last show airing will come to a close. Yes, Superman & Lois will conclude after its upcoming 10-episode fourth season, the final DC show airing on The CW.

The modern era for DC characters on The CW began with Arrow, which spanned multiple spin-offs, including The Flash and Batwoman. From there, DC was a significant cornerstone to The CW line-up, but as time passed, each show saw its run conclude. Now, with Superman & Lois going on its final mission, the chapter is done, and DC Studios will look to launch a new television era.

As with many of The CW shows, budget became an issue, with the latest season only coming after their budgets were slashed, leading to cast reductions, with not all of the series regulars asked to come back full-time.

“Over the last three seasons, Superman & Lois redefined both the superhero genre and family drama as Tyler, Elizabeth, and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new layers of depth and complexity that had never before been explored in the Superman universe,” said Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment, The CW Network.

“We are grateful for the years of hard work and graceful storytelling from the show’s writers, producers, actors, and crew, as well as our terrific partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions,” he continued. “As Superman embarks on his final flight, the team is leaving us with an absolutely epic 10-episode must-watch-every-minute farewell to one of the most legendary CW families ever.”

The final season of Superman & Lois is slated to air on The CW in 2024.
