Swamp Thing casts Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu

October 27, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The official DC Universe Twitter accounts has announced that Jeryl Prescott (The Walking Dead, Ray Donovan) has become the latest addition to the cast of the streaming service’s upcoming live-action Swamp Thing TV series.

Prescott has been cast as the character of Madame Xanadu, who is described in the show as “a centuries-old sorceress who finds herself reluctantly drawn into battle against the escalating supernatural forces plaguing a small Louisiana town. A blind fortune teller and magical crusader, Xanadu’s heart is in the right place despite her unorthodox methods in the fight against evil.”

Madame Xanadu’s appearance in Swamp Thing will mark the live-action debut of the character, although she did feature in the Young Justice animated series and was set to feature in Guillermo del Toro’s abandoned live-action movie Justice League Dark.

Swamp Thing follows what happens when CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be gone after all.

The pilot for Swamp Thing is being directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld), while the cast so far includes Crystal Reed (Gotham) as Abby Arcane, Maria Sten (Channel Zero) as Liz Tremayne, Jennifer Beals (The L World) as Sheriff Lucilia Cable and Jeryl Prescott (The Walking Dead) as Madame Xanadu. Friday the 13th’s Derek Mears has also been rumoured for the title role as Swamp Thing, although that casting is yet to be confirmed.
