Fresh off Netflix’s Sweet Tooth, writer-director Jim Mickle is turning his attention to another comic book project with THR reporting that he is set to direct a feature adaptation of Donny Cates’ God Country for Legendary Entertainment.
Published by Image Comics, God Country follows Emmet Quinlan, “an old widower afflicted with dementia and violent outbursts. When a tornado hits his West Texas town, Quinlan is rejuvenated thanks to an enchanted sword he finds in the wreckage. Which is good as a host of dastardly creatures are about to descend on what remains of the town.”
Cates has written the script for the adaptation, which Mickle will direct as well as producing alongside Lee Kramer and Jon Kramer of AfterShock Media.
Mickle’s adaptation of Jeff Lemire’s DC/Vertigo comic Sweet Tooth premiered on Netflix earlier this month. He’s also previously directed In the Shadow of the Moon for the streamer, and co-created Hap and Leonard for SundanceTV.
