Euphoria and Anybody But You star Sydney Sweeney has signed on to star in and produce I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl, based on a short story by Joe Cote.
Cote wrote the story on Reddit and it gained a following. The story follows a drifter who impersonates a missing girl to rob the girl’s family — only to realize she’s made a terrible mistake.
Eric Roth (Dune) will write the screenplay while Sweeney will produce through her company Fifty-Fifty Films. Also producing are Roy Lee, Steven Schneider and Trevor Engelson for Vertigo and Aaron Folbe at Underground. A director has not yet been chosen.
Sweeney has several projects in the works as she begins taking on a more hands-on role as a producer after her producing work on the films Anybody But You and Immaculate.

In addition to reprising her role as Cassie in the anticipated third season of Euphoria, Sweeney will soon be seen in the Apple film Echo Valley, Paul Feig’s The Housemaid,Colman Domingo’s directorial debut Scandalous!, and A24’s The Masque of the Red Death. She also remains attached to lead a remake of Barbarella for Sony Pictures, which has Edgar Wright attached to direct.
