Taika Waititi is reportedly in talks to join the cast of the upcoming DC film The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn.
According to Deadline, there is no word yet as to what role Waititi is in negotiations to be playing or how big the part will be. However, with The Suicide Squad reportedly entering production in September and Waititi having a busy work schedule ahead of him, it’s possible his role won’t be as large as we may hope.
The filmmaker is currently promoting his new Fox Searchlight project, Jojo Rabbit, which is set to open on 18th October 2019 in the U.S. and he is beginning work on the sports comedy Next Goal Wins, which is his next directorial role for the Searchlight studio. On top of that, he will also be writing the script and preparing to direct the next instalment in the Thor franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Love and Thunder.
If the negotiations are successful, Waititi will be joining cast members including Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), while new additions include David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man) as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior (Valor da Vida) as Ratcatcher, Steve Agee (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) as King Shark and Idris Elba (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw), John Cena (Bumblebee), Nathan Fillion (Firefly), and Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time) in unrevealed roles.
