Taika Waititi, the director of Jojo Rabbit and the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, says that he is now “not sure” if he will end up directing the Akira adaptation.
Director Taika Waititi is one of the most in-demand directors in Hollywood right now, partly thanks to his work on Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit. Waititi is also lined up to direct the much anticipated Akira adaptation for Warner Bros, a project which is constantly being pushed back.
Thor: Love and Thunder has caused the most recent Akira delay according to Waititi in an interview with Variety: “The whole thing went on hold. It encroached on the Thor dates, which were immovable.”
This meant Akira “ended up shifting two years down the track”, and when asked if he would direct Akira after Thor, Waititi replied: “I don’t know what I’m doing in fucking two days.”
When asked if the film might not happen at all, Waititi responded: “I think eventually it will happen. I’m just not sure if I’ll be doing it.”

This is certainly not news that fans would be wanting to hear but hopefully, things pan out and he is able to do it. But with all the talk of a Star Wars movie being in his future too, this could complicate things even further.
