Back in May, FX announced that it had given a series order to What We Do In the Shadows, a U.S. version of Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s acclaimed vampire mockumentary.
The show will shift its focus from Wellington in New Zealand to New York City in the United States, as a documentary crew catches up with a new group of vampires living in the Big Apple.
Speaking at the New York Comic Con, Taika Waititi has discussed his creative involvement with the show, as well as teasing the possibility of Viago, Vladislav, Deacon and Nick making an appearance somewhere down the line.
“I’m more like EP-ing on the show, I’ll probably direct a couple of episodes,” said Waititi. “I don’t know why I thought it would be a good idea to make it into a TV show, because I’d say about a week into shooting the movie we were questioning how we could make a five minute idea into a feature film. Now, we’re really stretching this idea. But this one’s set in New York and it’s different characters. So, it’s in the same universe, the Taika-Jemaine universe, and it’s another documentary crew at the same time and they’ve found another flat full of vampires. I’d like to say that our characters are still in New Zealand at the same time, and there’s a chance that there could be some crossover.”
What We Do In the Shadows is set to premiere on FX in 2019 and features a cast that includes Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou and Harvey Guillen.
