It wouldn’t feel like a proper Conjuring Universe film without a Farmiga, and Taissa Farmiga is set to continue the tradition by reprising her sole as Sister Irene in New Line’s The Nun 2.
Deadline report that Farmiga will return to the convent alongside A Wrinkle In Time‘s Storm Reid, who was previously announced as the lead role for the Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona) directed sequel.
Farmiga is a stalwart when it comes to scares, having appeared in four seasons of American Horror Story, while Reid starred in Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man, and will be seen next in HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us.
2018’s The Nun was critically lambasted upon release, but inexplicably went on to become The Conjuring Universe’s most successful film, grossing $365M at the worldwide box-office.
It’s testament to the popularity of the brand born from James Wan’s superb 2013 horror The Conjuring, the sequel to which, 2021’s The Devil Made Me Do It, was the last film from the Universe to be released, and that still managed to earn over $200M at the global box-office during the height of the pandemic.
Malignant’s Akela Cooper wrote the original script for the The Nun 2, but that screenplay has since undergone revisions by The Autopsy of Jane Doe‘s Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing .
