It may not have managed Roseanne-level ratings, but the spinoff series The Conners has proven to be a solid hit for ABC, and so it comes as little surprise to hear that the network has opened talks over a second season.
According to TV Line, cast members Sara Gilbert, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson, Michael Fishman, Jayden Rey, Ames McNamara and Emma Kenney are all in negotiations for an expanded second season of 13 episodes, and talks are said to be progressing smoothly.
The Conners was created following ABC’s decision to fire Roseanne Barr from the revival of the classic sitcom due to racist remarks on social media; the spinoff show is averaging 10.2 million viewers per episode and is tied with Modern Family in the key 18-49 ratings as ABC’s top comedy series.
The show is currently on its midseason break and will return in January for the remaining three episodes of its first season.
