Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Taylor Kitsch (True Detective) and Michael Shannon (Midnight Special) are set to star in a new miniseries from Weinstein Television which will dramatise the deadly 1993 standoff between the Branch Davidians and the federal government in Waco, Texas.
Titled Waco, the miniseries has been written by John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle (No Escape) and will see Kitsch portraying cult leader David Koresh, with Shannon playing FBI negotiator Gary Noesener. It will detail the events from both sides of the 51-day siege, which ultimately left four ATF agents and 82 cult members dead.
“This event series will explore the truth behind this tragedy and speaks directly to the heart of the current issues between citizens, law enforcement, and the media,” said The Weinstein Company as part of the official announcement.
