The James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios is in full swing with all things Superman, but that doesn’t mean they can’t announce a long-awaited new film.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Teen Titans is in early development. It will be the first live-action adaptation of the hit DC IP. Ana Nogueira is attached to pen the screenplay for the project. If her name sounds familiar to DC fans, Nogueira is already writing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring Milly Alcock, for DC Studios.
No director is currently attached to the project. As we see with the new DC Studios, it’s surrounded by mystery beyond the initial announcement.
The then-unnamed team first appeared in 1964 in The Brave and the Bold #54, with the team consisting of Kid Flash, Robin, and Aqualad. They would later adopt the now-iconic name Teen Titans in issue 60 with the addition of Wonder Girl.
The later and now recognizable team consisted of Batman’s former sidekick, Robin, becoming Nightwing and teaming with Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Cyborg. That version of the Teen Titans was featured in a Cartoon Network series that ran for five seasons and was later spun off into the cartoon Teen Titans Go!, which got its feature film adaptation.
There was also a live-action gritty reboot on Max titled Titans and multiple animated feature films under the DC Animation umbrella.
At the time of writing, there’s no set release date for Teen Titans.
