Tenet release details announced, will roll out internationally ahead of the U.S.

July 27, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Despite pulling the film from its calendar indefinitely last week, Warner Bros. seems hell bent on having Tenet in cinemas this summer, with the studio setting a new release schedule for Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi blockbuster that sees it rolling out internationally before making its way to the U.S.

Tenet is set to arrive in 70 markets on August 26th, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Japan and Russia, with the filming then opening in select cities in the United States on September 3rd for the Labor Day holiday weekend. As yet, there is no word on a potential date for the film to release in China.

Warner Bros. is said to have been buoyed by the financial success of Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula, which has grossed over $20 million in its home market of South Korea this month. This has apparently confirmed to the studio that moviegoers are looking to get back to the cinema, and the hope is that Tenet will benefit from audiences being starved of new content since the lockdown began back in March.

Let’s see whether this date sticks, but in the meantime, let us know whether you’ll be booking your tickets for opening weekend…

Armed with only one word – Tenet – and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real-time. Not time travel. Inversion.

Tenet sees Christopher Nolan directing a cast that includes John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh.
