Load the tour bus with your most glam feather-boas and frocks, because 30-years down the dusty road the original cast of Terence Stamp, Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving are returning for a sequel to The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
During a conversation with Deadline, Stephan Elliot, director of the original 1994 Australian road trip comedy, revealed that “The original cast is on board, I’ve got a script that everybody likes, we’re still working out deals. … It’s happening.”
Elliot added “I’m not repeating myself, we’ll start the new film in Australia, but by God, we’re going on one helluva journey.”
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert follows two drag queens and a transgender woman, played by Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp, as they journey across the Aussie Outback from Sydney to Alice Springs in a tour bus that they have nicknamed ‘Priscilla’, along the way encountering various groups and individuals.
Debuting at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, the film was heralded for bringing LGBT themes to a mainstream audience, as well as driving off with the Academy Award for Best Costume Design at the 67th Academy Awards, and grossing almost $30 million worldwide, off a budget of $2 million.
