Per The Hollywood Reporter, Westworld star Thandiwe Newton is currently in negotiations to join Channing Tatum in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, the third instalment of the hit Warner Bros. movie series.
Although details on Newton’s character are being kept under wraps, the outlet is reporting that she will be the female lead of the film. Newton will star alongside a returning Channing Tatum who plays male stripper Mike Lane, a character that was loosely based on Tatum’s own experiences as a stripper in Florida.
Steven Soderbergh is returning to direct the feature after having skipped the 2015 instalment, Magic Mike XXL. Reid Carolin, who was behind the screenplays for the first two Magic Mike films, is back as the writer for the project, which is being made exclusively for HBO Max.
Newton has received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and two Critics Choice Awards, as well as nominations for a Golden Globe Award, Saturn Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award for her work on HBO’s acclaimed sci-fi series Westworld, which is heading to its fourth season. She is recently coming off of starring in Reminiscence, which reunited her with her Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy.
