Despite his head being lopped off in Avengers: Endgame (not to mention his alternate past version being dusted), Thanos creator Jim Starlin doesn’t think we’ve seen the last of the Mad Titan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, he even expects to see a young version of the character popping up in next year’s Eternals.
“Well, I understand that the story’s not completely ended,” Starlin told Comic Book. “They’ve already announced that. I think a young Thanos appears in The Eternals. I remember reading that somewhere… They made a shit load of money off this guy. So I don’t see them retiring him anytime soon. Comic book characters tend to have an extended lifespan beyond the actors who work on them. I’m half expecting to see much more Thanos down the line.”

Marvel had originally planned on exploring some of Thanos’ backstory in Avengers: Infinity War [check out some concept art showing age progression designs here], and given how closely he’s tied to the Eternals in Marvel comic book continuity (he’s the son of the Eternals A’lars and Sui-San), it’s certainly possible that the movie could explore his origin or at least make reference to it, particularly as it is expected to span thousands of years of history.
