As casting rumors and hype for the much-anticipated role of Cable in Deadpool 2 continues to sizzle, it was recently reported that Brad Pitt was in contention to join the film as Nathan Summers.
Last week some concept art landed online which featured Pitt as the character, and was quickly removed by 20th Century Fox. Apparently, the actor did meet with director David Leitch to discuss the character and project but, alas, they could not reach an agreement due to scheduling conflicts.
Leitch told ComicBook “We had a great meeting with Brad, he was incredibly interested in the property. Things didn’t work out schedule-wise. He’s a fan, and we love him, and I think he would’ve made an amazing Cable.”
As we theorised on the Flickering Myth Podcast, the concept art was likely commissioned to present to Pitt in order to entice him into the movie.

Leitch also spoke to Joblo about the rumours linking Michael Shannon to the role, stating that: “You know, I think, Michael Shannon, that name speaks for itself, he’s an incredible actor and he can accomplish anything. Yeah, I’m passionate about him as an actor and, look, he would make an incredible Cable. If that happens, I would be through the roof that I get to work with another incredible actor. I can’t say that it’s going to happen, because we’re looking – the list is what the list is. But, yeah, I have nothing but great things to say about him and I’m a huge, huge fan.”
Deadpool 2 is expected to go into production later this year for release in 2018. David Leitch (John Wick) takes over directing duties, with Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) returning to the cast alongside Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino.
