Although it’s found itself slipping down the chart thanks to The Lost City and fellow comic book movie Morbius (the latter of which defied negative reviews to claim top spot with a worldwide opening of $84 million), Warner Bros. and DC Films’ The Batman hit another significant box office milestone this past weekend.
With $349 million domestically and an additional $361.5 million from international markets, the Robert Pattinson-led reboot has now earned $710 million worldwide since its release early last month. That makes it the first film to surpass the $700 million this year, and only the fourth Hollywood title to do so since the start of the pandemic (the others being Spider-Man: No Way Home, No Time To Die and F9).

The Batman is also currently the highest grossing movie of 2022 to date ahead of Chinese war sequel The Battle at Lake Changjin II ($636.3 million), although with the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore arriving in the coming weeks it remains to be seen how much further the Dark Knight will be able to extend that lead.
Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.
