Matt Reeves’ The Batman has capitalised on the great reviews (read our ★★★★ critique here), stellar word-of-mouth, and moviegoers reinvigorated appetite for big screen fare, by tracking down $128.5M at the North American box office this weekend.
According to Deadline the number could rise to $130M when the dust has settled on the return of Gotham’s Knight, but as it stands Warner Bros.’ The Batman has delivered the second-best opening since 2019 after Marvel behemoth Spider-Man: No Way Home.
In terms of other iterations of the DC property, The Batman landed fourth in figures adjusted for inflation, behind Batman vs. Superman ($194M), The Dark Knight Rises ($195M), and IP standard bearer The Dark Knight ($206M).

At last count The Batman had amassed $111M overseas, for a tentative worldwide total of approximately $240M, which has already surpassed industry expectations for the three-hour epic.
