Paramount Pictures, New Regency and Plan B Entertainment have today announced the start of production on The Big Short, their A-list ensemble piece that is currently filming in New Orleans.
Anchorman 2 director Adam McKay is directing the film which stars Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Trilogy), Brad Pitt (Fury), Steve Carell (Foxcatcher) and Ryan Gosling (Drive), as well as newly announced additions Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler) and Melissa Leo (The Fighter).
McKay re-wrote the film from a previous script from Charles Randolph (Love and Other Drugs), which is based on bestselling non-fiction book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lewis. The book tells the remarkable true story of the genius contrarian investors who, recognizing just how insane the housing bubble had become, figured out how to “short” the market prior to the financial collapse of 2008.
Tracy Letts (Homeland), Hamish Linklater (The Newsroom), John Magaro (Unbroken), Rafe Spall (Life of Pi), Jeremy Strong (Zero Dark Thirty) and Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story).
The movie will be produced by Academy Award winners Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner (12 Years a Slave) via their Plan B Entertainment banner.
