Back in January it was announced that The Help co-stars Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer are to reunite on a new Christmas-themed comedy, and now comes word from Variety that Michael Showalter (The Big Sick) has signed on to direct the project as his next movie.
Based on a treatment from Chastain and Kelly Carmichael, and scripted by Peter Chiarelli (Crazy Rich Asians) the as-yet-untitled film has been compared to the John Hughes classic Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and follows two women as they fight the elements in order to make it home for Christmas.
In addition to his acclaimed feature The Big Sick, Showalter’s credits include Wet Hot American Summer and Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, while he has also directed episodes of Love, Grace and Frankie, and Search Party.
