Deadline is reporting that Jeff Robinov’s Studio 8 has tapped Seith Mann (The Breaks, Homeland) to write a feature film adaptation of the superhero comic book series Black.
Published by Black Mask Studios and created by Kwanza Osajyefo, Tim Smith 3 and Jamal Igle, Black takes place in a United States where only African-Americans possess superpowers.
The story follows a teenager called Kareem Jenkins, who survives a police shooting and discovers he is a lot more powerful than he ever knew. As he connects with others who share similar powers, a widespread oppressive global conspiracy to keep the knowledge of such superpowers from the world — and especially the black community — themselves is unveiled to all.
Studio 8 is hoping to launch a franchise with Black, and is also developing an adaptation of the female-led follow-up comic BLACK [AF] America’s Sweetheart.
