Ready to fight some evil dogs? The Breed will put that to the test in a remake of the cult film, which Deadline reports Nathan and Griff Furst are directing and will produce under their Curmudgeon Films banner.
Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey stole the show in Scott Mann’s vertigo thriller Fall and will lead the cast of The Breed. They’ll star alongside Page Kennedy (The Meg) in the remake.
The Breed is billed as an “unconventional reimagining of the cult Wes Craven-produced movie of the same name”, which followed a group of friends who set out for a relaxing weekend on a remote island but find themselves besieged by a pack of vicious canines.
The original film was directed by Nicholas Mastandrea and starred Michelle Rodriguez, Oliver Hudson, Taryn Manning, Eric Lively, and Hill Harper.
Producers note that this new film will “follow a group of people searching for abandoned dogs on a remote island, with terror-filled consequences.” Curmudgeon Films handles sales in the Americas, and Daro Film Distribution handles the rest of the world.
The Breed is filming in Guatemala and has an expected 2025 release.
