It you were hoping that the John Wick spinoff series The Continental might help to ease the wait for the next instalment in the Keanu Reeves-headlined action franchise in 2021, then unfortunately we have some bad news for you.
During Starz’s presentation at the Television Critics Association this week, COO Jeffrey Hirsch was asked whether the TV series could premiere ahead of John Wick: Chapter 4, responding that: “My sense is that where we are today, the movie date has been set but we’re still in early development on the series so [it will air] most likely after.”
Plans for a John Wick TV series were first revealed back in the summer of 2017, with Starz subsequently picking up The Continental in January 2018. Director Chad Stahelski and writer Derek Kolstad have developed the show, which is confirmed to be a prequel to the movie series, while Chris Collins (Sons of Anarchy, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum) is on board as showrunner.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently set for release on May 21st 2021, with Keanu Reeves set to reprise his role as the eponymous assassin and Kolstad once again writing the script.
