Back in October of last year it was revealed that The CW was planning a “modernized reboot” of the hit US soap opera Dynasty from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl), and now comes word that the project has officially received the green light for a pilot. Sallie Patrick (Revenge) is set to serve as showrunner, while original creators Richard and Esther Shapiro are also on board as executive producer.
As with the original show, the reboot will follow two of America’s wealthiest families in the Carringtons and the Colbys, and “will be told primarily through the perspectives of two female characters locked in conflict — Fallon Carrington, daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington, and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal, a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.”
Dynasty originally aired on ABC in 1981 and ran 220 episodes across nine seasons, during which time it won four Golden Globes, including Best TV Drama Series – the only night-time soap to have done so.
