Back in January it was reported that Paramount Pictures and Hasbro were unlikely to be moving forward with their previously announced ROM and M.A.S.K. movies, which had initially been announced as part of a planned Hasbro Cinematic Universe.
Since then however, we’ve heard that Ready Player One’s Zak Penn has been hired to pen a new script for ROM: Spaceknight, and now comes word from Deadline that Straight Outta Compton and The Fate of the Furious helmer F. Gary Gray will be directing a M.A.S.K. movie.
Originally created by Kenner, M.A.S.K. is an action figure line and animated series that follows a task force – the Mobile Armored Strike Kommand – who battle the criminal organisation VENOM. The search is now underway for a writer who can deliver “a contemporary subculture movie with a youth empowerment angle.”
