The Flash is facing a -75% crash in its second weekend at the box office

June 24, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

If The Flash‘s opening-weekend was a disappointment, Warner Bros. and DC had better brace themselves for an even more bruising sophomore frame, with the news that the $200 million budgeted blockbuster is slowing to a crawl at the U.S. box-office.

Following a below-estimates opening of $55 million last weekend, experts predict The Flash will earn $14 million over the next three days, which would be a disastrous -75% drop for the Andy Muschetti directed superhero movie. It would be the worst second-weekend decline for Warner Bros. and DC since 2011’s The Green Lantern got hit with a -66% drop back in 2011.

It could also mean that The Flash drops to number four in the charts, below Jennifer Lawrence’s new comedy No Hard Feelings (read our ★★★★ review here), which is looking at a weekend take of approximately $14-15 million.

Should this predicted timeline of events play out, it would pave the way for a straight shootout between Disney/Pixar’s Elemental and Sony Animation’s all-conquering Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, both of which are looking at approximately $18 million.

Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

The Flash is directed by Andy Muschietti (It) and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash alongside Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ben Affleck (Batman), Michael Keaton (Batman), Sasha Calle (Supergirl), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Traue (Faora-Ul), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ron Livingston (Henry Allen), and Maribel Verdu (Nora Allen).
