Battlestar Galactica launched in 1978 with the original TV series, which was followed by the short-lived sequel series Galactica 1980 and a hit reboot which ran between 2003 and 2009. Taking place in a distant part of the galaxy, it follows the remnants of humanity who are on the verge of extinction after coming under attack by a race of machines called the Cylons, and are searching for the mythological planet Earth, home of their ancestors.
