Former Warner Bros. chief Greg Silverman’s Stampede is teaming with YouTube Premium for Gatz, a TV reimagining of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.
Deadline reports that the series is a retelling of the novel, which is based on the academic theory that Fitzgerald wrote Jay Gatsby as a mixed race man. It will explore the story through that lens, embracing the cultural aspects of the time during the height of the Harlem Renaissance.
Gatz is being written by SC Sansiveri, who will also executive produce with Silverman and Stampede’s new head of television Paul Shapiro. It is the second TV project to get the go ahead at Stampede after Witnesses, a detective thriller in the works at Fox.
