It looks like 2010’s Tangled is about to become the next Disney Animated Classic to get the live-action treatment, with Deadline reporting that The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey is in talks with the Mouse House about bringing the musical fantasy to life.
According to the trade, the live-action film will be produced by Kristin Burr (Cruella) and Lucy Kitada (The Baby-Sitters Club), with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder, Do Revenge) having written the most recent draft of the script.
A retelling of Rapunzel, Disney’s Tangled featured Mandy Moore as the voice of Rapunzel, Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider, and Donna Murphy as the villainous Mother Gothel. A smash hit success, the film grossed $592.5 million upon release and was followed by the 2012 short film Tangled Ever After, as well as the Disney Channel animated series Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure.
Director Michael Gracey is currently promoting his semi-autobiographical Robbie Williams chimpanzee film Better Man [read our ★★★★ review here], which begins its global roll out with a Christmas Day release in the US – some five days on from the arrival of Disney’s Lion King prequel Mufasa: The Lion King.
