Back in December during a Disney Investor Day, it was announced that writer and director James Gunn was once again returning to the Marvel world to develop a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Now, taking to Twitter, the filmmaker has confirmed he has finished writing the script for the Disney+ film.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has previously confirmed that The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be shot back-to-back with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (which is scheduled to start filming later this year) with the holiday special premiering before the third film is released in 2023.
Gunn also confirmed The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will take place after the events of Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder but before the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Plot details for Vol.3 are being kept under wraps but it is safe to assume that all of the Guardians will be returning including Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Sean Gunn as Kraglin and Rocket Raccoon, and Karen Gillan as Nebula.
