Steelkrill Studio and Feardemic have announced they will be bringing their survival horror title, The Backrooms 1998, to consoles later this year. Based on the creepypasta urban legend, The Backrooms 1998 is a spine-chilling survival horror that takes players into those eerie empty corridors and rooms. A new trailer can be seen below teasing the sinister and unnatural environment players will encounter.
In the style of first-person found footage, The Backrooms 1998 tells the tale of a young teen who finds themselves into the depths of the Backrooms in 1998. Players will need to find a way to escape but be careful, as players are not the only thing to wander around these seemingly endless empty rooms and corridors.
Players will be able to roam freely around the labyrinth, seek out tools, supplies and other equipment that will help them escape, including the spray gun that can help mark the way, medications, a torch (flashlight to our American friends) and the ever-useful crowbar.
The upcoming console version will feature:
- Microphone input allows the enemy to hear every noise the player makes.
- Survival elements such as a full inventory system, clue finding and tools.
- Uncover the backstory to the Backrooms.
- Smoother gameplay and refined visuals for a more polished experience.
- Hide from enemies in lockers, under tables and other locations.
- Updated jumpscares.
- A more immersive and unsettling environment.
- Achievements to be unlocked by exploring the eerie labyrinth.
Look out for The Backrooms 1998 arriving on Xbox, PS4, Playstation 5 and Nintendo Switch later this year. The full version 1.0 will also arrive via Steam.
