The Hunger Games’ Amandla Stenberg to headline YA adaptation Darkest Minds

September 28, 2016 by Gary Collinson

The Hunger Games star Amandla Stenberg is set to headline the YA adaptation Darkest Minds, which is based upon Alexandra Bracken’s book trilogy and is being directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 3).

Darkest Minds takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a pandemic has killed most of American’s children, with some of the survivors developing superpowers and finding themselves places in internment camps after being deemed too dangerous for society.

THR reports that Stenberg – who portrayed the character of Rue in the first Hunger Games movie – is set to play Ruby Daly, a 16-year-old with telekinetic powers, who escapes her camp and joins a group of teens on the run from the government.

The project will mark the live-action debut for director Nelson, with Chad Hodge (Wayward Pines) writing the script and and Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) producing.
