I’m not sure how Alan Moore will feel about this one (we can all make an educated guess) but this is one reboot that I definitely do want to see happen. According to The Tracking Board 20th Century Fox are keen to make a big screen adaptation reboot of one of Alan Moore’s best work to date, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Back in 2003 a feature film loosely based on the comic book series starring Sean Connery was considered a huge failure (even though it made a small profit) and was critically panned by movie and comic-book enthusiasts alike. In fact the movie got slated so badly that it’s the main reason cited why Connery retired from acting shortly after it’s release.
Directed by Stephen Norrington (Blade) and also starring Jason Flemyng (X-Men: First Class), Stuart Townsend (Elementary) and Peta Wilson (La Femme Nikita), The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen follows a team of literary icons with unusual powers led by Allan Quatermain (Connery) who must unite to help save the world from impending destruction at the hands of a mad super villain. It sounds just like your average comic-book movie nowadays but back in early 2000’s a feature film adaptation had comic fans everywhere foaming at the mouth. Unfortunately it wasn’t the big hit that everybody was hoping for. Two years ago a television reboot was in the works with Michael Green (Green Lantern) attached as show-runner but it didn’t get off its feet and it went back into development limbo.
No writer or director have been attached yet and the only other information we know is that John Davis (The Blacklist, Chronicle) will produce. It’s likely that studio will want to take their time developing this reboot in order to get it right this time around.
What are your thoughts? Who would you like to see join the cast or direct?
