The Wrap is reporting that The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay is set to reunite with Warner Bros. on a live-action feature film adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera animated series Jonny Quest.
The show, which launched with a TV series between 1964 and 1965, follows a young boy called Jonny Quest who travels around the world with his scientist father on extraordinary adventures, accompanued by his adopted brother Hadji and their former secret agent bodyguard Race Bannon.
Warner Bros. has been developing a Jonny Quest movie for several years now, with Sin City’s Robert Rodriguez previously attached to direct and co-write with Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean).
Next up for McKay is an adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons for Paramount Pictures. He’s also attached to direct a Nightwing movie for Warner Bros. and DC Films, and while there’s been little progress in the near-two years since it was announced, he did suggest last week that the superhero film remains alive.
Whether that’s still the case after this Jonny Quest news, however… we shall see.
