The Man Who Changed Cinema: Great Creature Features from Ray Harryhausen

September 27, 2020 by Red Stewart

Marvelous Videos on Ray Harryhausen and his creature movies…

A lot of times in movies there are many important crew members who go unrecognized. I mean, let’s be honest with ourselves- it’s much easier to pin all the successes (and failures) of a flick on the big names like the director, producer(s), editor, cinematographer, etc… Occasionally a Stan Winston or Michael Wilkinson gets the praise they deserve, but it’s few and far between.

Ray Harryhausen was one of those underappreciated figures in the film industry. He had an enormous impact on not just filmmaking, but visual effects designs as a whole. He pioneered an entire animation genre called “Dynamation,” which continues to see use in the film industry to this day.

Thanks to the folks at Marvelous Videos, we have eight of the movies he worked on that are sure to delight fans…
